SARASOTA, FL. - The Sarasota Police Department has arrested a man wanted for a murder in Polk County.
On Friday, around 9 a.m., Sarasota Police Detective Mike Jackson received information from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit that Robert Shelly, an individual wanted for Murder, was in Sarasota.
Detective Jackson worked with Detective Ron Roberson to forward information about the wanted murder suspect to uniformed officers. A BOLO was issued that included Shelly’s photo and information that Shelly had been at the Sunoco Station (1012 N. Tamiami Trail) at 7:13 am and at the Publix (1044 N. Tamiami Trail) at 8:30 am.
A search was made in the area of 10th Street and the N. Tamiami Trail.
At approximately 9:20 am, an officer located Shelly at Centennial Park, 10th Street Boat Ramp near the wood line at the north edge of the park and was arrested.
Shelly is listed as being homeless. His arrest for murder is based on an arrest warrant. The Homicide occurred in Port Richey Florida on Jan. 26.
