SARASOTA, Fla. -- City and county leaders in Sarasota sat down Monday to discuss the so-called "come as you are" homeless shelter.

The proposed shelter would bring people off the streets and into a monitored place with case management.

But some residents and city officials question whether the shelter would be effective, and are concerned about the impact a shelter would have on surrounding neighborhoods. And during the meeting the community gave officials an earful.

As a Sarasota County Tax payer for many years, I want to voice my opinion on
the homeless shelter issue. I think that the County Commissioners have paid
Robert Marbut more than he is worth. You have given this man $120,000.
as of this date and he has been hanging around for months now. If you people
have not gotten all the necessary information from him, by this time, then he
is just taking us to the cleaners. Make notes if you cannot remember what he
has said. I worked for many years for a government funded entity and handled
all the budgets and expenses as well as attended the monthly Board of Directors
meetings, and I operated better than you are on this one issue. Doesn't anyone
have any common sense any more??????????
