SARASOTA, Fla. -- A Sarasota man was airlifted to the hospital Tuesday after investigators say his motorcycle hit a car that pulled out in front of him.

The crash happened about 5:20pm on Stickney Point road near Gateway Avenue.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Jonathan Fawks was riding his motorcycle westbound on Stickney Point Road.  That's when a car driven by 57-year-old Kathleen Shook of Port Charlotte was attempting to pull out from a driveway and turn left onto Stickney Point.

Investigators say she didn't see the motorcycle and drove into it's path.  The motorcycle hit the car's left side and Fawks, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike.

He was taken by helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton in critical condition.

Charges are pending further investigation.
