SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - Welcome to the world, Colton Campbell Arbuckle!

Baby Colton was born at Sarasota Memorial Hospital at 5:31 a.m. on January 1, 2018. He is the first infant born at the hospital this year. He was 5 pounds, 7 ounces, and 19.25 inches long.

Colton's family had an eventful ending to 2017. His mother, Meghan, went into labor earlier than expected. Her water broke around 4 a.m. on December 31, even though Colton wasn't due to be born until January 10. She was admitted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Colton was delivered by caesarian section early Monday morning.

“There were some long, grueling hours,” said Logan Arbuckle, Colton's father. “But the nurses made it a lot easier. They were a huge help, and when midnight came around, they brought in New Year’s hats and horns to celebrate with us.”

Meghan was one of eight moms who labored through Near Year's Eve.

The last baby born on December 31 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital arrived at 6:43 p.m. 3,627 babies were delivered at SMH in 2017.
