Update: Police reported Sellers was located Sunday morning and is okay.
MANATEE CO., Fla. (WWSB) -- Police in Manatee County are searching for a man who was last seen walking into Sarasota Bay and not seen returning.
At approximately 10 p.m. Friday, witnesses reported seeing a white male with short, brown, curly hair (believed to be John Thomas Sellers) arrive in the 200 block of Gaines Avenue driving a silver Chevrolet Malibu (bearing Florida tag 9579VH).
He then parked the vehicle near the dead end, exited the vehicle and proceeded to walk into Sarasota Bay.
Witnesses lost sight of him when he was about 40 to 50 yards out into the water. However, it was low tide at this time and the water was extremely shallow.
Emergency personnel were called and MSO, Fire, and EMS all responded to the scene. The abandoned vehicle was observed parked in the roadway near where Gaines Avenue dead ends into the bay.
A lengthy search of the area, by air and ground, ensued for the man, but he was not located.
John Sellers battles drug addiction and depression. He resides at an unknown location in Sarasota. John was last seen wearing a burgundy shirt (with unknown writing) and blue jeans.
