Sarasota man dies after weekend shooting in Palmetto

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - Police say that the victim in a shooting in Palmetto early Saturday morning has died from his injuries.

26-year-old Javare Thomas of Sarasota died Sunday.

According to the Palmetto Police Department, Thomas was the passenger in a car being driven westbound on Haben Boulevard around 2:45am Saturday.  That's when police say a pickup truck pulled alongside the car and began shooting at them.

Thomas was struck by gunfire and was taken to Manatee Memorial for treatment.

The pickup truck is described as a black newer-model truck with chrome trim and rims.
