Sarasota man critical after crashing motor scooter

SARASOTA, FL. – A Sarasota man is in critical condition after crashing his motor scooter into another vehicle.

It happened Tuesday around 9:30 am at U.S. 41 and Phillippi Shores Street.

According to Florida Highway Patrol 76-year-old Florentino Mazzucco was riding his motor scooter northbound on U.S. in the right lane. He attempted to change lanes and collided with a vehicle driven by 84-year-old Martha Powers of Sarasota. He was knocked off the scooter and landed on the pavement.

Mazzucco, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by Bayflite to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton in critical condition. He is charged with Careless Driving and Driving while License Suspended.
