SARASOTA COUNTY - Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man for failing to care for his animals after finding two dead and two sick calves on his property. The man is also accused of shoving a deputy.
Monday morning, Sarasota County Sheriff's deputies encountered 63-year-old David Damschroder around 10:30am after receiving a report of a suspicious person in his neighborhood. During the investigation, Damschroder took deputies to his Winburn Place home in East Sarasota County but a report says his demeanor changed and he attacked a deputy.
When he was taken into custody, Damschroder he said he had dairy calves in the back pasture. When deputies went to check on the animals they found two dead calves and two that were weak and sickly.
The two sick calves are being treated at West Coast Veterinary Center/Braden River Equine, where they are doing well today but are still in need of medical care.
Damschroder is charged with four counts of Confinement of Animals without Sufficient Food and Water, one count of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and one count of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
