SARASOTA, FL. - Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department have charged a Sarasota man in connection to a March 10th homicide.

On March 10 around 10:30 p.m., Sarasota Police Department officers responded to the 3200 block of North Orange Avenue in reference a homicide. Upon arrival, officers located the body of 23-year-old Carlton Parhm of Palmetto.

According to Sarasota Police, Parhm and 4 friends drove from Manatee County to Sarasota to meet with another individual. During the meeting, an argument began and Parhm and the individuals got into a car to avoid a confrontation. They left the area and drove eastbound on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way in Sarasota. As the vehicle turned south onto Leon Avenue, a gunshot shattered the front passenger front window, striking and killing Parhm.

During the investigation, detectives developed probable cause for the arrest of 19-year-old Shaquan Leverett.

"This is the beginning of helping the family of Carlton Parhm find closure to this tragic event. While this continues to be an ongoing investigation, a violent criminal is off the streets of the city of Sarasota," said Detective Tony DeFrancisco, Criminal Investigations Division, Sarasota Police Department.
