SARASOTA - The execution of a search warrant on drug charges temporarily shut down a Sarasota street Friday, as deputies and a SWAT team surrounded a home.

The warrant was served at a home along Tarpon Avenue, off 17th Street in Sarasota. That’s where sheriff's deputies arrested the owner, John Villecco.

Investigators say he sold drugs to undercover detectives, and inside his home, they found marijuana, cocaine and prescription narcotics.

he has been charged with charged with three counts for the Sale of Cannabis, two counts for the Sale of Subutex, one count each for the Sale of Cocaine and Xanax, and one count each for Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Sell within 1,000 feet of a Daycare, Possession of Oxycodone with Intent to Sell within 1,000 feet of a Daycare, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Subutex), Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

As for the presence of the heavily-armed SWAT team, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says it uses a nationally-recognized threat matrix to determine when the SWAT team is necessary to carry out a raid.
