SARASOTA, Fla. - The State Fire Marshal is investigating an overnight fire that destroyed a Sarasota home early Wednesday.

It happened around 2am in the 100 block of Conrad Avenue, off Fruitville Road across from Robart's Arena.

The house was completely engulfed in flames. None of the people inside were injured, but the home is now uninhabitable, as firefighters report that only 30% of the wood frame structure was saved.

One on the occupants told authorities that they were smoking a cigar in bed and fell asleep.

Red Cross is assisting the four residents with a hotel room.

Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
