SARASOTA, Fla. - Sarasota High School's football team began a new era Thursday. Brian Ryals will take the helm as the new head football coach.

Ryals is a Booker High graduate, and has been the offensive coordinator at Sarasota for the past three years under Ed Volz, who resigned in October to spend more time with his family.

We asked Coach Ryals about his plans for the team this offseason. “To engage them...I want to know my players. I want to know what their goals are. I want to know their families. I want to build relationships is what I want to do with each and every one of them.”

Ryals will be looking to build on a successful run to the playoffs. In 2013, the Sailors lost to Pinellas Park 32-7 in the first round. It was their first appearance in the playoffs since 2007.
