SARASOTA - Sarasota is changing, as new condos, more landscaped sidewalks and roundabouts on U.S. 41 are just a few of the things coming to the city.
At a breakfast called “Downtown Horizons” in Sarasota on Wednesday, realtors, community leaders, and City of Sarasota Economic Development Officials discussed development in downtown, Newtown and along the North Trail. They all say a rebounding economy means new projects and improvements.
ABC 7 spoke with an official who is managing redevelopment in North Sarasota. Lorna Alston says development will also bring some much needed jobs. “The challenge particularly continues to be employment, in terms of knowing we have a high unemployment rate. Improved quality of life is a direct correlation to economics.”
Meanwhile in downtown Sarasota, some city officials are hoping they can lure larger retailers to Main Street. Some are concerned there is too much of a dependence on small mom and pop businesses.
