SARASOTA--The College Board has announced the nationwide SAT results for the class of 2013, and the future looks bright for those coming out of Sarasota. The Sarasota County School Board says that its students outperformed their peers this year, both in Florida and across the country.
Sarasota County students scored 30 points higher than state averages in reading, 33 points higher in math and 24 points higher in writing. When put in comparison to the nation, the district's average scores are 26 points higher in reading, nine points higher in math and 11 points higher in writing.
More than a thousand public school seniors in the county took the SAT this year. The Florida Department of Education says 112,554 students in all took the test for 2013.
