SARASOTA – The Sarasota County Jail earned high marks Friday during its annual Florida Model Jail Standards Inspection.

The Florida Model Jail Standards are minimum standards which jails must meet to ensure the constitutional rights of those incarcerated are upheld.

Ten Certified Jail Inspectors from four different counties combed through all aspects of the facility, including housing, food services, booking and medical services. At the conclusion of the inspection, Supervisor Mark Stroop from Osceola County said, “I commend all of the staff at the Sarasota County Jail for their commitment and professionalism.”

Major Jim Lilly, Commander of Courts and Corrections Services said, “We recognize that it’s all about the people who work here 24-hours a day, seven days a week. They are what make the jail run more efficiently.”

In addition to this voluntary annual review, the Sarasota County Jail is inspected every three years by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission. Medical services are accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
