SARASOTA, Fla. – Monday afternoon, Sarasota city commissioners will discuss a potential location for a proposed homeless shelter.
The City of Sarasota has been debating where the proposed shelter would go; either off of Orange Avenue or East Avenue.
At Monday’s meeting, the commission will hear a detailed report from Police Lt. Kevin Stiff on the effects a new shelter would have on the Suncoast. This coming after Stiff, along with homeless expert Robert Marbut, recently visited homeless shelters in four major cities.
Some of the topics the report touches on includes the amount of people that would likely start hanging around it, the increased number of officer calls to the shelter, and the impact its presence would have on local businesses.
The meeting begins at 2:30. [Update: The meeting has been moved to 6pm at the Sarasota County commission chamber.]
