SARASOTA, Fla. - A three-year-old boy is in critical condition after a car struck him on Bee Ridge Road at Briggs Avenue in Sarasota on Saturday night.

Florida Highway Patrol says the incident happened at approximately 6:44 p.m. Saturday, November 2 when the toddler ran into the center eastbound lane on Bee Ridge. The vehicle – traveling in the center lane – swerved in an attempt to avoid impact, but Florida Highway Patrol says the boy ran directly into its path.

The three-year-old was taken to All Children's Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the car, 70-year-old Thomas O'Rourke from Flagler Beach, does not face any charges.

O'Rourke and his passenger did not suffer any injuries.
