BRADENTON FL,--The doors of Sally's Pantry are now locked and officials say they may not reopen any time soon. The Salvation Army in Bradenton started a pantry program to help those having trouble getting groceries, keep food in their home. But, their demand has exceeded their supply.
"One thousand extra families are now coming to Sally's Pantry than last year. So, we are seeing that simply as a sign of whats happening in our community and economy," said Christine Smith from the Bradenton Salvation Army.
The pantry is usually stocked like a grocery story and families needing a little extra help can get everything from canned products to frozen meats. But the Salvation Army in Manatee County is temporarily closed But officials say the growing number of people using the service wont be able to get food until they have replenished their stock.
Coming up on ABC 7 at 5 we talk more to Salvation Army officials about their food shortage.
