SARASOTA Co., FL (WWSB) -- It's time to set sail.
Mote Marine Laboratory has joined forces with the Bird Key Yacht Club to present the Sarasota Bay Cup.
The sailing competition, dubbed the "Mote Marine Laboratory Regatta," will take place Saturday, April 22. Participants should arrive at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium at 8 a.m. for complimentary breakfast.
The first race begins at 11:40, before all boats with a higher rating than 270 start sometime after 12 p.m.
The Regatta will generate funds for Mote and prizes will be awarded to the top boats in each class at the Bird Key Yacht Club. The Sarasota Bay Cup Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the best performing boat as determined by the Race Committee.
“Our goal is to expand the appeal and exposure of sailing to a much wider community and become a centerpiece event for Sarasota,” said Bill Jacobs, Chairman of the event.
For adults the entry fee for all boats is $50, which includes one regatta Polo style shirt and one ticket for the Saturday dinner. Additional dinner tickets and shirts are available for $20 each. Registration is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
The entry fee for the Sarasota Youth Sailing competition, meanwhile, is $25, with the same shirt and dinner ticket also included. Additional dinner tickets and shirts are available for $15 each. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. om Saturday, the day of the races.
