SARASOTA, Fla. - The nonprofit group that manages the Benderson Park rowing complex has been banned by the state from soliciting donations.

Reportedly the group failed to provide state regulators with required financial records.

The Herald Tribune is reporting that Florida's oversight agency attempted to contact Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center numerous times before denying the nonprofit’s registration as a charitable organization. Under Florida law, a nonprofit seeking to solicit donations must renew its license annually.

Suncoast Aquatic's president told the Herald Tribune that it was administrative oversight and it will be rectified.

The setback comes as Benderson Park attempts to get funding to finish the rowing park in time for the 2017 World Rowing Championships.
