SARASOTA - A piece of Sarasota's past, literally buried for decades, will soon regain its glory.

Renovations continue on the Mable Ringling Fountain at Luke Wood Park off Mound Street. The fountain served as a tribute to the Ringling Family's contributions to the area.

But when money to maintain it ran out, the city covered it in dirt in the 1950s.

Members of the Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation got help from students at Sarasota Military Academy on the project, installing the rose-pattern mosaic at the fountain.

They will install electricity for lights so that the park can host weddings and other events once it's complete.
