SARASOTA, Fla--Christmas may be over, but the stores just keep on giving. The day after Christmas is usually known as a day for returns and breaking in those gift cards, but on the Suncoast, most shoppers were just taking advantage of some of the biggest deals we've seen yet.
Shopping center parking lots were full as shoppers seek out bigger deals.
"Today is for shopping and getting the good deals, and they are wonderful,” says Patty Kozlowski, a Bradenton resident.
Indeed, they are. Stores like Target and Old Navy advertised discounts up to 50-75%, and Best Buy with 50% off select items.
"I started yesterday checking online for who's doing the special sales and that kind of stuff so that's why I knew to come to Old Navy,” says Adam Masucci.
Old Navy is offering their "Mega Sale" with discounts up to 75% off for the last steals of 2013, and the store manager says they have seen minimal returns in comparison to sales the day after Christmas.
"They just love giving great deals for great prices for families. We're all about affordable American fashion,” says Chelsea Havelka, the store manager of Old Navy.
The reason for the deals; According to ShopperTrak, in store retail sales were down 3% last week and 21% in foot traffic; meaning holiday sales were not meeting the numbers retailers expected. Plus, retailers are trying to move this season's product to make room for new inventory.
"Just trying to get the rest of the winter product out to the customers,” says Havelka.
Folks told us, this is the best time to shop for clothing and home essentials.
"I think it's a good time to shop for babies, you know what I mean, cause they grow out of clothes so quickly and so this is like the perfect time to get them,” says Joshua and Leah Boic, shoppers visiting the Suncoast from Australia.
And with promotions on top of discounts, shoppers feel like it's Christmas all over again.
"Practically paid us to come shopping here today,” says Michael Beninato.
According to Retailmenot.com, many of these deals last for only a few more days, so make sure to take advantage of the discounts while you can.
