SARASOTA, Fla. -- The recent modern pentathlon event hosted by Sarasota had a major economic impact on the Suncoast.

According to Visit Sarasota County, the event generated just under $2 million for the local economy.

This was the first time the Modern Pentathlon World Cup was held in Sarasota. Around 3,500 spectators came out to see the world class athletes, and the event attracted around 750 out of state and international visitors. Hotels reportedly raked in nearly $125,000.

The Suncoast will host several other similar events in the near future.

Sarasota-Manatee will host the 2015 Modern Pentathlon World Cup, and the 2015 U.S. Olympic team trails.
