VENICE, FL (WWSB) - Repairs for the Venice Fishing Pier have been delayed until Spring.
Officials say a shortage of wood means the pier will go through another tourism season before it gets a permanent fix. That is after damage from Hurricane Irma forced the pier had to be closed while its structural integrity was evaluated.
City officials determined it could be repaired and reopened for this year's season, and then closed again afterward for more extensive work. Now, the City says the Brazilian hardwood needed for the pier is unavailable and could take up to up to five months to get delivered.
Instead, the City decided Tuesday to delay the pier repairs until after next April.
