WASHINGTON- The FDA wants limits on most prescribed painkillers. The agency made the recommendation today to limit access to medicines containing hydrocodone.
The move comes more than a decade after the DEA first asked the FDA to reclassify hydrocodone to be subject to the same restrictions as other opioids.
The FDA's decision mirrors legislation introduced by Congressman Vern Buchanan. He supports the recommendation, saying, in part: "Today's announcement could go a long way towards combating an epidemic that wreaks havoc on countless families and communities across our nation."
