We are learning more about the man thousands of family, friends, and complete strangers will remember this weekend. Sgt. Michael Wilson was a 21-year veteran of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. Wilson graduated from Port Charlotte high school in 1990. Friends say he always wanted to be in law enforcement by first starting in the jail, then as a school resource officer at his Alma mater. Later, he began working in the street-crimes unit and most recently a road patrol supervisor. He was known for his big grin and love of fishing in and out of Charlotte Harbor.

Sgt. Michael Wilson leaves behind his wife Joanne and three children. Those who knew him well say they were his pride and joy who he always worked to be with. Seven South Newsroom reporter Josh Taylor will have more on the slain officer coming up this evening.
