"Receiving the support of the President of the United States for this project provides a huge boost to our goal of establishing Sarasota County as destination for world class rowing events," said Sarasota County Administrator Randall Reid. "We appreciate the President's support as well as that of all the people who have worked tirelessly on this project."

This month, officials from Sarasota and Manatee Counties will travel to Switzerland to meet with FISA representatives, and pitch to them a presentation on why Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota should be chosen.

A decision from FISA on where the 2017 World Rowing Championships should be announced in September. Local officials say the Championships could generate more than $20 million for the area.
