ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- The idea of a ‘Sunday drive’ was taken to extremes this past weekend when six golf carts from different parts of Knights Island were stolen, driven around and left at other parts of the island.
Sometime between late Saturday night August 16 and mid-morning Sunday August 17, someone took golf carts from residences and businesses located on Palm Island Drive and Rum Bay Path on Knights Island near Englewood. While deputies were taking the theft reports, they were also finding the golf carts. In some instances, a golf cart reported stolen from one area of the island was found at another area, not far from where another golf cart was reported taken.
By the end of the day, deputies had recovered all six golf carts and returned them to their owners or operators. Some of the golf carts had been damaged during their trips. The personal-use golf carts were valued at between $2,000 and $4,000 each. One of the carts taken from a business was specially equipped for that business’s use and was valued at $7,000.
Detectives assigned to the cases request that anyone who has any information on these thefts please call the Sheriff’s Office at (941) 639-2101 (ask for District 1 Detectives), or call Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
