PUNTA GORDA - A rare white Screech Owl found abandoned in Charlotte County is getting a second chance thanks to the Peace River Wildlife Center.
Now, they need the public's help to name the young bird.
A hiker found the bird on the ground last month in a wooded area.
Caretakers at the wildlife center say the owl's family probably abandoned him because his white coat didn't blend in.
Since being brought in, the owl has adjusted well to its new surroundings.
The center is holding a fundraiser to find a name for the little guy. It's$1 per vote to pick between five names. They have set it up so that patrons can "vote" by making a donation to their favorite name. Currently we are collecting donations in buckets labeled with the names at the Center and Fisherman's Village (on Wednesdays), but anyone is welcome to donate thru the PayPal link on our website, peaceriverwildlifecenter.com or by mail . The name which has the most donations will be chosen for the little guy!
