CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - A Punta Gorda man died Monday after suffering injuries in a motorcycle versus ATV crash Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened on Bryan Way, just off U.S. 17 north of Punta Gorda, around 5:45pm Sunday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 49-year-old Paul Ruleford of Punta Gorda was riding a Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Bryan Way behind an ATV driven by a 12-year-old boy.

As the boy drove the ATV onto the road's grass shoulder, Ruleford followed but crashed into the rear of the ATV.  Ruleford, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike and suffered life-threatening injuries.

He was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries on Monday afternoon.
