SARASOTA - A proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter in the city of Sarasota has a passed another hurdle.
The city planning board approved a plan to build the 98,000 square foot facility at the site of the old Publix on Ringling Boulevard and South Shade Avenue.
With the Publix now gone, the few stores that do remain will also be leaving the shopping center.
Several people at the meeting spoke for and against the project.
The planning board approved it with a 3-2 vote, but the final approval still needs to come from the city commission.
