The city of North Port will discuss today whether to allow Sarasota County to take over its police dispatch system.  It is one of the topics scheduled for tonight's city commissioners meeting.

Allowing the county to run dispatch could save North Port $8 million over the next 20 years.  However, it is not known how many jobs would be effected by the change.

The North Port police chief suggested the change, saying the money saved could go towards after school programs and school resource officers.  The commissioners meeting begins at 6pm tonight.
