Police: Toddler dies after being left in car in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Fla. – A Sarasota man has been charged with the death of his 2-year-old daughter after authorities say he left her in a hot car.

23-year-old Uriel Hernandez has been charged with felony Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child.

According to Sarasota Police, detectives responded to 1500 N. Orange Avenue for suspicious death of a child Sunday. The child had been taken to the hospital around noon with with a body temperature of 106° when she arrived at the hospital.

The child’s mother told detectives Hernandez picked up the child at approximately 6am on Sunday for their usual Sunday morning breakfast.  Hernandez called the child’s mother before noon to tell her the child was not responding. The child’s mother rushed to the house and called 911 on the way.

Investigators learned that Hernandez arrived home with the child, went inside to get a phone charger and fell asleep.

The mother maintains that Uriel is a great father.
