SARASOTA, Fla. - Police say they were able to recover a Suncoast man's stolen car before he even know it was gone Monday morning.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, while on patrol of 24th Street and Dixie Avenue in Sarasota early Monday morning, officers noticed a wanted person entering a vehicle. Officers radioed to other officers on patrol to stop the vehicle.

Officers noticed the wanted person, Aaron Fludd, driving south on Dixie Avenue with his high beams on. Fludd was wanted for violation of probation and driving without a license. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1800 block of 23rd Street and made contact with Fludd and two other passengers, Rashard Smith and Kaveail Butler.

Officers questioned all three subjects about who the car belonged to. Officers went to the registered owner’s home and made contact with the victim. The victim told officers he was unaware his vehicle was missing. The victim told officers he had the keys and did not know how it was taken. The victim was taken by officers to the location of the vehicle to confirm and verify it did belong to him.

It was later determined that the suspects had used a valet key, which may have been inside the glove box, to start the car.

The three inside the vehicle were arrested, charged and transported to the Sarasota County Jail.
