SARASOTA - Police need your help solving an armed robbery in which they say the suspect threw a hammer at a smoke shop employee.

According to the Sarasota police Department, just before 4pm Friday, a man walked into "Smoke Shop Sarasota/Cheap Smokes" in the 2800 block of North Tamiami Trail. Officers say he went up to the clerk while holding a hammer and demanded cash.

When threats didn't work, police say the man threw the hammer at the employee and hit him in the shoulder, and claimed to also have a gun.

The clerk ran out of the store while the suspect smashed open the register and took off with the cash.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6’1”, medium build with short hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white shirt with unknown colored stripes and white tennis shoes.

Somebody call Washington. Now we have to ban the hammers. Perhaps anyone buying a hammer should go through 3 months of training and pass a rigid background check
