SARASOTA, FL. - Sarasota Police have arrested a Bradenton women for doing ‘whippets’ and falling asleep in her car with her 1-year-old child present.

Whippets is a term used for inhaling nitrous oxide in metal canisters that store whipped cream in order to get high.

According to the Sarasota Police, officers responded to the 5100 block of North Tamiami Trail in Sarasota on Friday evening after someone found 29-year-old Jennifer Ann Lee asleep at the wheel of a car at the intersection of University Parkway and North Tamiami Trail. In the backseat was Lee’s son, also asleep.

A passerby noticed Lee asleep and offered to drive her and her son to safety. That person drove the car to the 5100 block of North Tamiami Trail and called a friend to check on the woman and her child. The friend called police and told them Lee was “doing whippets” in front of him.

When officers arrived, they observed several small canisters by Lee’s feet. Approximately 20 “whippets” were removed from the car.

Lee admitted to falling asleep at the wheel at the intersection of University Parkway and North Tamiami Trail. She said, “I was tired and it happens.”

Lee was arrested and charged with Felony Child Neglect.
