SARASOTA, Fla. - Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department have arrested a Sarasota man after they say he held two people at gunpoint, stole cash and cell phones from them, physically beat one of the victims and stole their truck.
18-year-old Francisco Ruiz has been charged with felony armed robbery with a firearm and felony carjacking with a firearm.
According to Sarasota Police, the victims were at the Presidential Apartments when Ruiz asked one of the victims for a ride but the victim refused. Ruiz became angry, started yelling. The victim told officers Ruiz told him he was going to call his gang over to kill him. The victims got into their car and drove around the back of the apartment complex to wait for another friend.
Several minutes later, Ruiz and two other suspects arrived to the area in another car. The rear passenger got out of the car and pointed a gun at the victims. Ruiz took the keys out of the car and hit one of the victims in the face, ordered them out of the car, stole $140 cash and stole a cell phone. Ruiz and the two unknown suspects left the area.
