SARASOTA – The Sarasota Police Department is investigating shots fired in the area of 24th Street and Osprey Ave. on Thursday around 12:30 am.

Officers heard gunfire, about 4 or 5 shots, and checked the area surrounding Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and Osprey Av. The officers were flagged down by a female at 24th St and Osprey Av who stated that a white vehicle had just sped off from this area.

Officers were unable to find the vehicle, but located a bullet casing in the roadway in the 1700 block of 24th St. Officers also noticed that a home in the same block had an open door and bullet holes in the front gate and garage. The resident stated to the officers that he didn’t realize gunshots were fired at his home.

Officers collected evidence from the scene and the shooting is now being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the shots fired should call the Criminal Detective Division at (941) 954-7070.
