SARASOTA, Fla. - The Sarasota Police Department has identified the man who was shot and killed in a public park by two officers Sunday when they say he pointed a gun at them.

30-year-old Deacon Clark, with a last known address in Sarasota, was shot and killed by Officer Terry Crenshaw and Officer Adam Barlow Sunday night in North Water Tower Park.

Police say the officers approached Clark around 10pm and saw that he had a gun in his hand.  He was ordered to drop the gun, but the officers say he pointed the gun "in a threatening manner" at them.  Both officers opened fire on the man.

Clark died at the scene.

Both officers are on administrative leave while under investigation.  They have been with the force for two years and have not been involved in any previous shootings.

Sarasota Police have recently increased their patrols in the area due to resident complaints of narcotics and prostitution activity.
