SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) – The Sarasota Police are asking the public to help them locate Jabez Spann, who has been missing since Monday, Sept. 4.
Spann is about 5-foot-9 and 120 pounds. He was last seen in the 1500 block of 23rd Street during the evening.
Sarasota Police Chief Bernadette DiPino updated the investigation on Monday saying Spann was last seen by his grandmother on Sept. 4th at 6:00 p.m. and thought he was going to stay at a friend's house. The grandmother contacted police after learning that Jabez did not show up at the friend's house.
Police say the situation began as a runaway case, but has since been changed to a missing person investigation. A Florida missing child alert has been issued, but case doesn't meet the criteria needed for an "Amber Alert" which requires evidence that the person has been abducted.
Police say they have "pinged" Spann's cell phone, but the effort has not provided a lead to his location.
If he is located, or if you have any information about the case, please call the Sarasota Police Department at 941-316-1201 - Attention Sergeant Shanafelt.
