SARASOTA - Canvas covers will now provide a little relief for little ones playing on a portion of the Payne Park playground.

The playground reopened Friday evening with three brand new covers over the section designed for 2-5 year olds. It had been closed for two weeks while contractors installed columns and cables to support the covers.

Next up are covers over the play area for kids 5-12 and the music area. That work will begin in January.

The circus-themed playground originally opened this June.
