SARASOTA - A plane described as an experimental aircraft crashed into the water just off Lido Beach Wednesday afternoon, but thankfully nobody was injured.

The bi-plane departed from Venice Airport and reached an altitude of about 1,000 feet before coming down.

The pilot was the only person on board at the time, and he was able to safely make the short swim to shore.  He suffered only a scratch.
