ENGLEWOOD, FL (WWSB) - The images of hurricane flood victims in Texas has been disheartening, including the animals, many of which have been stranded. Phil Snyder, Executive Director of Suncoast Humane Society in Englewood says they plan on accepting items that the animals may need, and then having a donated Penske rental truck full of pet supplies delivered to Texas to help.
"Food is needed but they need things like dawn liquid soap, the animals that come out of the floodwaters need to be cleaned up," said Snyder. "They want plastic crates because it provides a little more comfort and security for the animals, of course leashes."
Friends of Manatee County Animal Services say they have started a Hurricane Harvey Pet Relief collection at various locations throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties. They too are taking in pet supplies and food as well as accepting monetary donations to assist with the pets in need in Texas.
"When we saw what happened in the Houston area and how many pets were left behind or injured or without homes, we felt we needed to do something," said Katie Howard with Friends of Manatee County Animal Services.
