BRADENTON - Three people have been taken to the hospital as a precaution after lightning struck near a tent they were inside in Bradenton.

Manatee County Fire Rescue says a woman and two children were inside a tent outside a Bradenton house in the 2200 block of 20th Avenue West early Monday when lightning struck a tree next to the tent. Authorities say the three are in stable condition.

According to the National Weather Service, Florida led the country last year with five deaths caused by lightning strikes. Three lightning fatalities have been reported in Florida so far this year.
