2 pedestrians injured in Sarasota hit and run crash

SARASOTA - Sarasota Police are seeking assistance from the public to identify the vehicle and driver involved in a serious injury hit and run crash.

The crash occurred just after midnight on Feb. 2.

According to Sarasota Police, 2 pedestrians were standing in the median of N. Washington Blvd (301) just north of the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

A northbound vehicle drove onto the median and struck the pedestrians. The vehicle left the scene without stopping, continuing northbound on U.S. 301.

The vehicle is described as a silver or dark colored 4-door sedan. The vehicle is believed to have sustained front end damage, and possible damage to the vehicle windshield. The vehicle was driven by a white male that has not been identified.

One of the pedestrians has been identified as 62-year-old John Haygood of Sarasota. He was transported to Blake Medical Trauma Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. The second pedestrian did not require medical treatment.

Anyone who witnessed this crash or has information about the vehicle involved in the hit and run crash is asked to contact Sergeant Resch at 941-364-7323.
