SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Police Department says a vehicle struck and killed a man at approximately 12 a.m. on Sunday, November 10.

Police say a Caucasian male was crossing U.S. 41 and 42nd Street in North Sarasota when a vehicle traveling northbound hit and killed him. It is not yet known whether the victim was walking in the road or trying to cross it at the time of the accident. In addition, police haven't said if the driver of the vehicle is at fault.

Following the accident, authorities closed the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 for several hours, and rerouted traffic eastbound on 40th Street to 47th Street via Royal Palm Avenue. They say they will release further information on the incident during the week.
