Pedestrian dies after being hit by car on Lockwood Ridge

SARASOTA, Fla. -- An 87-year-old man died from his injures Monday after troopers say he was hit by a car as he crossed the street.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 87-year-old Oscar Rodriguez Diaz of Sarasota was attempting to cross Lockwood Ridge Road between Monica Parkway and 17th Street just after 5:30pm.

That's when a car driven by 39-year-old Zenda Mayer was headed southbound on Lockwood Ridge and struck Diaz.

Diaz was transported to Blake Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

No charges were filed against Mayer.
