MANATEE COUNTY--Over the next three weekends, authorities throughout Manatee County will targeting minors consuming alcohol at after prom parties.

The Party Patrol consists of school resource officers from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, and the Bradenton and Palmetto Police Departments.

"We're not trying to make trouble for people. We are trying to make sure our kids are safe. I think most parents would agree with that," said Rita Chamberlain, with the Manatee County Substance Abuse Coalition.

If a minor is caught at an after party consuming alcohol, he/she will be given two options. The first would make the minor and their parents attend a six week course on substance abuse. If the minor declines, they will face criminal charges.

"I really think they need to think twice. That's the key," said Captain William Fowler with the Bradenton Police Department.

Neighbors who report parties with underage drinking will be awarded $100 from the Party Patrol.
