MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Law enforcement will be on 'Party Patrol' these next two weekends in an effort to reduce teen substance abuse during prom season.

Officers will be seeking out parties where underage drinking may be taking place.

The program is intended to act as an intervention, identifying and discussing substance abuse and other issues, instead of the youth facing criminal charges. Teens caught with alcohol or illegal drugs have two options: attend a six-week Substance Abuse Family Education program with their parents or face a judge in court.

Cash rewards will be offered to anyone who reports a party with underage drinking by calling CrimeStoppers at 866-634-TIPS.

ABC 7's Max Winitz will have more on this story tonight on ABC 7 News at 5.
