HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FLA. (WTSP) - A Manatee County man is dead after a crash between a tractor trailer and a car on I-75 that caused thousands of gallons of liquor to spill onto the roadway.

The Florida Highway Patrol says around 2:36 a.m., an ABC Liquors tractor trailer and a BMW were heading south on I-75 approaching the Alafia River Bridge. The two vehicles collided in low visibility conditions, causing the BMW to go off the inside shoulder of the bridge and into the Alafia River.

The tractor trailer overturned onto the southbound lanes of I-75. The BMW's driver, 42-year-old James Proctor of Parrish, died at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer, 30-year-old Wayne Waldon, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injures.

A large portion of the 30,000 gallons of various types of alcoholic beverages spilled onto the highway. Troopers closed all lanes until about 8 a.m. when they reopened two southbound lanes. All lanes were reopened an hour later.

I-75 is not safe. truckers are constantly tailgating creating very dangerous situations and the police DO NOTHING.
